KPL Mid-Season Transfer Window: Key Moves That Could Decide the Title

The Kenya Premier League mid-season transfer window slammed shut on March 31, and the business conducted by the top clubs suggests that the title race is far from settled. A total of 47 players changed clubs during the window, with net spending reaching an estimated KES 85 million — a record for the mid-season period.

The biggest move of the window saw experienced striker Timothy Otieno leave KCB FC for Gor Mahia in a deal reportedly worth KES 12 million. Otieno, who scored 14 goals in the first half of the season, gives Gor Mahia a proven goal-scorer to complement the youthful Benson Omalla. The signing was met with jubilation by the Green Army, who see it as a clear statement of intent.

Tusker FC, looking to protect their lead at the top, moved to strengthen their defence by signing Ugandan centre-back Moses Waiswa from KCCA FC. Waiswa brings continental experience, having played in the CAF Champions League group stages, and his aerial dominance should shore up a backline that has occasionally looked vulnerable from set pieces.

AFC Leopards opted for a different approach, bringing in two promising youngsters from the lower divisions.
