Kenya Boxing's Olympic Blueprint: Inside the LA 2028 Preparation Program

The Kenya Boxing Federation has unveiled a detailed preparation program aimed at producing the country's best-ever Olympic boxing result at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The four-phase plan spans the remaining period before the Olympics and incorporates international exposure, sports science, and mental performance coaching.

Phase one, already underway, focuses on talent identification and base conditioning. Nationwide trials have been held in eight regions, with over 300 boxers assessed across weight categories. The most promising prospects have been invited to a centralized training camp in Nairobi where they train full-time under national coaches.

International sparring exposure forms the core of phase two. Arrangements have been made for training camps in Cuba, the United Kingdom, and Kazakhstan, providing Kenyan boxers with experience against different styles and skill levels. These camps also serve as benchmarking exercises to gauge readiness against Olympic-level competition.

The mental performance component represents a new frontier for Kenyan boxing. A dedicated sports psychologist has been embedded in the national team setup for the first time, working with boxers on visualization, pressure management, and competition focus. The federation believes this investment could be the difference between near-misses and podium finishes.
