Fred VanVleet controlled the tempo with 16 points and 11 assists, and Jabari Smith Jr contributed 18 points. The Lakers, still without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves through injury, struggled to generate consistent offence. LeBron James was held to 18 points on 7-of-19 shooting — his lowest total of the series. Houston's defensive gameplan focused on sending doubles at James in the post and forcing his supporting cast to beat them. Marcus Smart had 14 points but committed five turnovers, while Rui Hachimura managed just 8 points.

Turning Point

Houston led by 8 at halftime and then erupted for 38 points in the third quarter to blow the game open. A 14-2 run midway through the period turned a competitive game into a rout, with Green hitting three consecutive three-pointers to send the Toyota Center crowd into a frenzy. The Lakers never got the deficit below 15 in the fourth quarter.

Series Outlook

The Lakers still lead the series 3-1, and no team in NBA history has come back from 3-0 down. But Sunday's performance showed that Houston's young core has fight and talent. Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday in Los Angeles, where the Lakers will be desperate to close out the series and avoid giving the Rockets any further belief.
