The Entertainers: Kakamega Homeboyz's 42 Goals Make Them KPL's Must-Watch Team

In a KPL season dominated by Gor Mahia's consistency and Kenya Police's defensive resilience, Kakamega Homeboyz have carved out their own identity: the entertainers. With 42 goals in 28 matches, Homeboyz have scored more than any team in the division — including leaders Gor Mahia (44 goals in 28 games) — and their attacking brand of football has made them the must-watch side in the Kenyan top flight.

Attack, Attack, Attack

Coach Nicholas Muyoti's philosophy is simple: outscore the opposition. Homeboyz average 1.5 goals per game, powered by a front three that has been the most prolific in the league. Their willingness to commit players forward creates breathtaking attacking moves, but it also leaves them exposed at the back — they have conceded 29 goals, more than double Kenya Police's 17. This boom-or-bust approach has produced some extraordinary scorelines: 4-3 wins, 3-2 defeats, and a memorable 5-2 demolition of Sofapaka that was the game of the season.

The Numbers Behind the Goals

Homeboyz sit fifth in the table on 46 points, 12 behind Gor Mahia with a game in hand. Their record reads W12 D10 L6 — a profile that shows a team capable of beating anyone but also vulnerable to dropping points. Interestingly, their 10 draws suggest that Homeboyz often take the lead but cannot always hold on, a consequence of their attacking approach leaving the defence outnumbered in transition.

Why Fans Love Them

In Western Kenya, Homeboyz have become the people's team. Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega regularly draws crowds of 15,000-plus for home matches, creating one of the best atmospheres in Kenyan football. The club's commitment to local talent — over 70 per cent of the squad hails from Western Province — has built a deep connection with the community. Season ticket sales have doubled since 2024.

Kakamega Homeboyz will not win the 2026 KPL title. But in a league where defensive football and pragmatic results often dominate, they are a breath of fresh air. Every neutral fan in Kenya secretly hopes Homeboyz are on TV this weekend.
