Liverpool 3-1 Crystal Palace: Salah Brace Keeps Reds in Top-Four Hunt

Liverpool moved within five points of the top four with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday, with Mohamed Salah scoring twice to keep the Reds' fading Champions League qualification hopes flickering.

Salah Turns Back the Clock

At 33, Salah continues to deliver when Liverpool need him most. His first goal came in the 23rd minute, cutting inside from the right and curling a trademark left-footed effort past Dean Henderson. The Egyptian doubled his tally just before halftime with a clinical penalty after Trevoh Chalobah fouled Luis Diaz inside the area. It was Salah's 17th league goal of the season, keeping him in the Golden Boot conversation alongside Haaland and Saka.

Gakpo Adds Gloss

Cody Gakpo added a third in the 67th minute, heading home a pinpoint Trent Alexander-Arnold cross to put the result beyond doubt. Palace pulled one back through Ismaila Sarr's neat finish in the 78th minute, but it was mere consolation for Oliver Glasner's side, who sit comfortably in mid-table.

Top-Four Arithmetic

Liverpool sit third on 74 points, five behind Arsenal and eight behind leaders Manchester City, but the more relevant gap is above the Champions League places. With Brighton and Chelsea both winning this weekend, Liverpool's margin over fifth-placed Chelsea remains at just three points with three games to play. A slip from here could see Liverpool miss out on Europe's elite competition for the first time since their wilderness years.

Arne Slot's side face a tricky run-in: Bournemouth (A), Nottingham Forest (H), and Leicester (A). They cannot afford any more dropped points if they are to secure a top-four finish.
